In "I Am His Servant" Kate Lee evokes the delicate blossom of faith children and youth experience. Lee draws upon her relationship with her sons in this painting and their first experiences with faith. The painting visually narrates a boy's tentative steps towards spiritual trust. Kate says, "I always think about what it could mean for them. What's their connection with Christ? And how do they feel about that with their testimony?" Lee adds her personal reflection, "I thought of my oldest son, and what learning from Christ is for him." Lee's artwork captures the boy's hesitation, "he's a little bit hesitant to trust Christ, but he's reaching out and he's taking Christ's hand." It's a profound depiction of faith in progress: a child reaching out, questioning yet yearning for assurance. The boy's uncertainty, "can I trust you?" is met with Christ's silent affirmation through a gentle touch and a supportive hand on his back, resonating with Lee's interpretation, "Christ hand, not only touching his, but also his other hand is on his back, inviting him and reassuring him that you can trust me and this is okay." Through this artwork, Lee communicates a powerful message of Christ's role in guiding the young through their spiritual journey. The painting is a testament to the artist's belief in Christ's encompassing love and support for the individual, as she captures the nuanced dance of faith and doubt in a child's heart.
