"Flaxen Cords" symbolizes the illuminating release from self-imposed restraints. Kate Lee explains, "it's really a representation of letting go of the things that we allow to hold us back." This painting visually interprets overcoming barriers of doubt and fear that inhibit progress.
Lee portrays a figure in the act of reaching towards the light, a metaphor for striving for hope and liberation. "You can see the girl, she's reaching for the light, and she's pushing back on the flaxen cords," Lee describes, depicting the conscious effort required to break free from limiting beliefs.
This act of reaching while pushing back is an expression of determination to "take that step forward and remove fear and doubt from her life." Kate hopes that this image will inspire viewers to embrace hope and gather courage to step forward into the unknown, despite the inherent challenges, "I hope that people that see this can feel that hope and want to step forward, even though it can be a really scary thing."
