"Five Were Wise" is an artwork that embodies the journey of faith and fellowship. Kate Lee admits, "I really struggled to paint this one," indicating the depth of thought and emotion that went into its creation.
The five figures represent those who are prepared, a reflection of the wise individuals from the parable who await with filled lamps, ready for what is to come. "They know who they're waiting for," Lee says, highlighting their anticipation and shared mission. There is an intentional unity to the women's positions, "they're all together, leading and cheering each other on and offering their testimonies."
This piece is a call to spiritual perseverance and preparation, as Kate hopes it will "help inspire... that people can just be excited about following Christ, even when it's difficult, and even when it feels overwhelming or unpopular." It's a visual encouragement to find strength in community and to "move forward together with people around them."
