"Lovingly Watched Over" speaks to the heartrending experience of loss and the comforting notion of angelic guardianship. Kate Lee shares, "I painted it originally because my older sister had an experience where her daughter passed away and how incredibly hard that was." The painting initially symbolized entrusting a child to an angel's care, reflecting a belief in heavenly mindfulness during life's most challenging moments.
Lee continues, "It is originally a representation of giving the baby to the angel, and allowing heaven to watch over that baby until you're able to be reconnected to it." Yet, as art often does, the painting has taken on multiple meanings for those who view it. Some see it as a depiction of birth, a moment when life begins, and a new kind of watching over commences.
The piece aims to provide comfort, as Lee states, "it really is to bring peace," and to remind us that "we have angels around us, and we're watched over and we're not alone." The message is of trust and reassurance, that despite the isolation one might feel in grief or joy, a higher power has a plan.
The title itself invites reflection, promising that no matter the circumstance, we are "Lovingly Watched Over."
